Adult Lower limb Surgery

General Orthopaedic services of the QLD LRC currently include

  • General upper and lower limb fracture management
We are able to assess and manage acute injuries to both upper and lower limbs. Emergency cases can be referred to Dr Maine via your GP or Emergency Department physician. Dr Maine is also a treating consultant at the newly established Northside Fracture Clinic “Fractures United”.
  • Total Hip replacement
This is a major salvage orthopaedic procedure that is usually offered to patients with severe degenerative disease of the hip joint or occasionally in appropriate cases for patients with a fracture of their femoral neck. Hip replacement or “arthroplasty” involves removing the damaged bone and replacing it with metal components that are separated by a plastic (polyethylene) insert. The operation carries significant risks that should be carefully considered by every patient who is offered the procedure.
  • Total Knee replacement
A total knee replacement is a major surgical procedure that involves removing the bone around the knee joint and replacing it with metal components that are separated by a plastic (polyethylene) insert. The aim of the surgery is to relieve pain caused by a degenerate knee joint. The operation carries significant risks that should be carefully considered by every patient who is offered the procedure.
  • Arthroscopic knee reconstructive surgery for meniscal injuries and ACL ruptures
Knee surgery is very diverse and there are many conditions that can be managed by keyhole or “arthroscopic” techniques. Dr Maine treated Paediatric knee conditions as part of her fellowship training and has developed a particular interest in ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair and Patellofemoral maltracking and dislocation.
  • Surgical management of patellofemoral dislocations
