The complexity of the surgical interventions we perform often require a multidisciplinary approach in order to achieve optimal outcomes for our patients. Under certain circumstances we may suggest that a child’s care be best instituted at the LCCH where Dr Maine is a treating consultant. This enables physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social work support to be readily available.
Noelle Coleman, the QLD LRC’s Nurse Practitioner Candidate has over 20 years of nursing experience with the majority of these exclusively in the management of Limb Reconstruction patients. Noelle was instrumental in the development of the Limb Reconstruction Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital which has now moved to the LCCH. Under the guidance of Dr Maine, she is able to assess children with commonly seen problems such as bow legs, knock knees and intoed feet. She is able to advise parents on what is normal in terms of growth of the leg in the child and whether further assessment is necessary. Noelle is instrumental in co-ordinating the care of our more complex adult and paediatric patients and is also able to manage post operative patient care for all patients undergoing surgery.
